Harry Goldblatt Award

This award recognizes an independent investigator working in
hypertension or a closely allied area whose manuscript is judged
by the Publications Committee to have made the most significant
contribution to cardiovascular research among manuscripts submitted
for the Annual Fall Conference and Scientific Sessions of the
Council for High Blood Pressure Research in association with
the Council on the Kidney in Cardiovascular Disease. The award
provides reimbursement of travel expenses up to $1200 to attend
the annual meeting. The candidate must be the first author of
the abstract and manuscript and will receive $1000. This award
was presented to Annette J. Dahly-Vernon, PhD (picture not available).

Merck New Investigator Award/United States

The purpose of the Merck New Investigator Award is to encourage
young investigators to undertake or continue hypertension research
and participate in the conference. The award permits a young
investigator to travel to the annual meeting and to present
research orally or in poster format and to engage in discussion
with senior investigators. The candidates are young investigators
(MD or PhD), fellows in training, and academicians who hold
an academic rank no higher than that of instructor at the time
of submission of an abstract. Each awardee (up to 10) will receive
$1200.

The purpose of this award is to encourage new investigators
from Japan to undertake or continue hypertension research and
to participate in the Annual Fall Conference and Scientific
Sessions of the American Heart Association Council for High
Blood Pressure Research. The award will be presented to up to
5 qualified new investigators from Japan who present papers
at the annual fall conference. Each awardee will receive $2000.

Kidney Council New Investigator Travel Award

Young investigators from the Kidney Council are invited to participate
in the general area of hypertension at the Annual Fall Conference
and Scientific Sessions of the Council for High Blood Pressure
Research. The program is in association with the Council on
the Kidney in Cardiovascular Disease. The New Investigator Travel
Award will be presented to qualified new investigators who have
submitted an abstract for the conference. The goal is to encourage
council members and their collaborators to get more involved
in the annual conference. Each awardee will receive $1200.
