Merck New Investigator Award/United States

The purpose of the Merck New Investigator Award is to encourage
young investigators to undertake or continue hypertension research
and participate in the conference. The award permits a young
investigator to travel to the annual meeting and to present
research orally or in poster format and to engage in discussion
with senior investigators. The candidates are young investigators
(MD or PhD), fellows in training, and academicians who hold
an academic rank no higher than that of instructor at the time
of submission of an abstract. Each awardee (up to 10) receives
$1200.
The recipients of this award are Elangovan Vellaichamy, Shetal Padia, Kelly Parsons, Jennifer Sullivan, Andreas Beyer, Jeffrey Olearczyk, Sandra Malakauskas, Youping Wang, Jeffrey Peterson, and Jiang Xu.

with the same criteria to up to 5 qualified new investigators
who plan to pursue their careers in Latin America. Each awardee
receives $1250.
The recipients of this award are Veronica Peotta, Minolfa C. Prieto-Carrasquero, Anderson Ferreira, and Fernando Carneiro.

from Japan to undertake or continue hypertension research and
to participate in the Annual Fall Conference and Scientific
Sessions of the American Heart Association Council for High
Blood Pressure Research. The award is presented to up to 5 qualified
new investigators from Japan who present papers at the annual
fall conference. Each awardee receives $2000.

Kidney in Cardiovascular Disease. The purpose of this award
is to encourage new investigators from Europe to undertake or
continue hypertension research and to participate in the conference.
Each awardee receives $1200.

Kidney Council New Investigator Travel Award

Young investigators from the Kidney Council are invited to participate
in the general area of hypertension at the Annual Fall Conference
and Scientific Sessions of the Council for High Blood Pressure
Research. The program is in association with the Council on
the Kidney in Cardiovascular Disease. The New Investigator Travel
Award is presented to qualified new investigators who have submitted
an abstract for the conference. The goal is to encourage council
members and their collaborators to get more involved in the
annual conference. Each awardee receives $1200.
