*    Harry Goldblatt Award
 
This award recognizes an independent investigator working in hypertension or a closely allied area whose manuscript is judged by the Publications Committee to have made the most significant contribution to cardiovascular research among manuscripts submitted for the Annual Fall Conference and Scientific Sessions of the Council for High Blood Pressure Research in association with the Council on the Kidney in Cardiovascular Disease. The award provides reimbursement of travel expenses up to $1200 to attend the annual meeting. The candidate must be the first author of the abstract and manuscript and will receive $1000. This award was presented to Annette J. Dahly-Vernon, PhD (picture not available).


*    Merck New Investigator Award/United States
 
The purpose of the Merck New Investigator Award is to encourage young investigators to undertake or continue hypertension research and participate in the conference. The award permits a young investigator to travel to the annual meeting and to present research orally or in poster format and to engage in discussion with senior investigators. The candidates are young investigators (MD or PhD), fellows in training, and academicians who hold an academic rank no higher than that of instructor at the time of submission of an abstract. Each awardee (up to 10) will receive $1200.
