Colin Johnston Celebration
Professor Stephen Harrap contacted the editors about publishing a “festschrift” honoring Dr Colin Johnston on his retirement as Head of the Department of Medicine at Austin Hospital in Victoria, Australia. Our initial concern, of course, was the limited space available in the journal for original scientific manuscripts. However, Dr Harrap understood our concern and agreed that all submitted manuscripts must undergo the same rigid peer review process, as would any other submitted material to Hypertension. He further agreed to arrange for funding the additional page costs thereby covering the publishing expenses that the additional manuscripts would require.
How, then, should the editors respond? We, of course, were pleased to join with Stephen Harrap in recognizing the outstanding scientific career of Dr Johnston, and we were truly impressed by the quality of the proposed material of the assigned topics and authors. Hence, we are now delighted and honored that we can share with Ds Harrap and Johnston the excitement of the Colin Johnston “festschrift” held earlier this year. The accepted manuscripts are published in this issue and 2 succeeding issues of our journal. The proceedings are now available to you, readers, as our way of participating in the Austin Hospital’s well-conceived celebration organized to honor Colin Johnston and his outstanding scientific career.
