The increased risks of stroke, cardiovascular disease, and end-stage renal disease associated with hypertension are well recognized.1 The early detection of elevated blood pressure levels and disease is key to the prevention and management interventions with a preference for assessment before microvascular or macrovascular damage has occurred.2 Although the effect of a single indicator of high blood pressure is associated with higher disease risks, the assessment of blood pressure trajectories provides a valuable nuance in the understanding of the associations between blood pressure and hypertension-related outcomes, such as stroke.3 Cohort studies have suggested a correlation of blood pressure levels in childhood with those in adulthood.4 However, there is considerable variability in the trajectories of childhood blood pressures associated with high blood pressure in adults with the tracking dependent on factors such as body mass index during childhood and adulthood. …
